Sometimes they can be annoying but generally we like our neighbours. The variety of culture, language, geography and climate we enjoy in Europe is exciting. Unfortunately the EU has the wrong take on neighbourliness, it’s too concerned with control. Of course we must deal with the world as it is and leaving now will bring uncertainty. But the direction of travel if we stay is clear, and it’s not towards harmony – the failures are obvious but the apparent idealism of the mission helps obscure them.
